About 8 years ago I happened upon an article in the Wall Street Journal that spoke of the mystery shopping industry and how anyone could make some money while going about their business with just a little effort.
Like many of those "get rich quick" programs it sounded a bit unbelievable but I decided to give it a try anyway.
I had a very good high paying job as a leadership trainer in a large government agency so I really didn't need the money. If you are familiar with Meyers-Briggs Type Indicators you'll understand that as an ENTP I get my energy by interacting with others in the world. I suppose I just liked the thought of playing a role and getting a few bucks for my effort.
I won't tell you that I've made millions from home but I can honestly tell you I've made $2000 to $6000 each year not including the reimbursements for items like pizza, burgers, restaurant meals, batteries and other everyday products. And that is while holding down a demanding full time position.
I've learned many lessons over the years and estimate I've completed about 4000 assignments. I've learned that often, finding the right jobs and the right Shopper Companies makes more sense than just hitting the road with any assignments you can find.
You won't get rich but if your act smart, act ethically and plan well you can pocket some extra money with minimal effort.
